Florida Solar Energy Center Launches Revamped Hydrogen Web Pages

The Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) has launched new web pages for their hydrogen research and development program. The new pages include Hydrogen Basics: H2 Economy, H2 in Florida, Hydrogen Q&A; FSEC Research: Production, Storage, Utilization, Fuel Cells, Funded R&D, Analysis, Delivery, Detection/Safety, Patents; Education; Faculty and Staff; Capabilities and Facilities; Resources: Publications, Videos, Related Links, and a detailed Hydrogen Database.

The pages can be accessed at http://www.fsec.ucf.edu/hydrogen or by clicking on the “hydrogen” button in the menu on the top of the home page at the FSEC website (www.fsec.ucf.edu).

Dr. David Block, FSEC Director Emeritus who led the project, said that new site is completely different from FSECs former online hydrogen information, with 34 separate sections and many links to additional sites. He explained that “visitors to the site will learn about the element hydrogen and how it can be used as an energy carrier, the extensive research on hydrogen conducted at FSEC, and education pages and the hydrogen research database. There is also information on fuel cells and more aspects of these technologies.”

The Florida Solar Energy Center has a long history of hydrogen research and education. Its hydrogen program began in 1983 with funding from NASA/Kennedy Space Center, and in 1997 FSEC was designated a Center of Excellence in Hydrogen Research and Education by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The Florida Solar Energy Center, a research institute of the University of Central Florida, is the largest and most active state-supported energy research institute in the country. Current research activities include solar water and pool heating, solar electric and distributed generation systems, energy-efficient buildings, alternative transportation systems, hydrogen fuel, fuel cells and other energy areas. For more information about the center, visit www.fsec.ucf.edu or call the FSEC Public Affairs Office at (321) 638-1015.
